Glastonbury High School Principal Chosen as Assistant Superintendent
GHS Principal Matthew Dunbar will replace Matthew Curtis as the district's assistant superintendent.

Glastonbury High School principal Matthew Dunbar was chosen from a field of 24 candidates to become the school district’s new assistant superintendent, according to Superintendent Alan Bookman.
The announcement was made at the Board of Education’s Aug. 13 meeting. Dunbar was hired in 2004 as the GHS principal to replace Bookman after he became the school district’s superintendent.
“Matt has been a very successful administrator here in Glastonbury,” Bookman said. “He has been a leader in the school system. The level of respect that people have for him is tremendous.”

Dunbar replaces former assistant superintendent Matthew Curtis, who worked briefly in town before moving on to become Simsbury’s superintendent. Dunbar first came to Glastonbury after serving as a history teacher at Berlin High School. He became assistant principal at GHS in 2001 before moving on to become the school’s principal.
A five-person committee , which included Bookman and Board of Ed Chairwoman Susan Karp, selected Dunbar from a field of 24 candidates for the position.

“He applied for the position, and he certainly was the unanimous choice of the committee,” the superintendent said.
Dunbar will stay on to act as the GHS principal until a new High school principal is hired.
