Glastonbury High School Receives CIAC Michael's Achievement Cup
GHS received the award for their outstanding athletics program for the second year in a row.

For the second year in a row Glastonbury High School was selected as the recipient of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference’s Michael’s Achievement Cup for outstanding overall athletics program for 2011-12.
GHS is the first school to earn the honor more than once since the CIAC took over the program in 2008. Glastonbury was honored at the sixth-annual CIAC Sportsmanship Conference, where 18 schools were recognized for exemplary athletics programs.

The selection committee commended Glastonbury for its “well-established and crafted department mission statement,” as well as the “thorough evaluation process and general organization that exists within the athletics department,” the release said.
The following schools also received recognition as exemplary programs: Avon, Brookfield, Darien, East Hampton, Fairfield Ludlowe, Foran, Gilbert, Haddam-Killingworth, Joel Barlow, Ledyard, Northwest Catholic, Notre Dame-Fairfield, Valley Regional, Wamogo, Weston, Westbrook, and Woodland.
The Michael’s Achievement Cup was created in the early 1980s as the brainchild of Roy Michaels, the owner of Michaels Jewelry, in an effort to recognize outstanding athletic programs. The program recognized yearly winners since that time, and then in 2008 transitioned directly to CIAC oversight of the program.
