Matthew Dunbar to Remain While High School Searches for New Principal

Principal Matthew Dunbar, recently appointed the school district's new assistant superintendent, will remain in his current position until Nov. 1.

 

Glastonbury High School principal Matthew Dunbar, who was recently announced as the school district’s newest assistant superintendent, will continue on in his capacity as principal for the start of the new school year, according to Superintendent Alan Bookman.

“Until we have a new person on board, Matt will not take up the position of superintendent,” Bookman said.

. Dunbar was hired in 2004 as the GHS principal to replace Bookman after he became the school district’s superintendent.

Before taking up his role as superintendent, however, the school district must find a replacement at the high school.

“We have posted the position,” Bookman said. “The deadline is the day after Labor Day:  Sept. 4.”

Bookman said he expects to interview candidates until Sept. 10, at which point a hiring decision will be made. He expects that the final transition will take place sometime in October.

“We set a deadline of Nov. 1,” Bookman said.
