On June 8, 2013, the Comcast/NBC CT Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge Ride and Walk, presented by Cigna and the Hartford law firm of RisCassi and Davis, returns to Simsbury and the Farmington Valley. Coach Calhoun and Coach Ollie co-host this popular cycling and walking event to raise dollars for the cancer programs at the UConn Health Center. Since 2007, the Ride and Walk has made it possible for the Neag Cancer Center at the UConn Health Center to recruit over 800 patients to clinical trials while supporting pilot research projects studying colon cancer, immunologic responses to proteins, and tumor sequencing. Additionally, the funds raised have enabled breast cancer screening for uninsured woman from across the state. The event includes great bicycle rides of 10, 25, 50 and 75 miles as well as a 5K walk. In addition, there will be free skin cancer screenings for anyone who wants them and a large retail zone, and play area for children. The event culminates with a tasty summer barbeque hosted by Kane's Market and live music. For more information about the skin cancer screenings or to register for the Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge Ride and Walk, please visit www.calhounridewalk.com or call 860-674-1500.
