A Connecticut man charged with having weapons in a parking lot for Gillette Stadium employees was ordered held on bail Monday morning.
Matthew Bromson, 48, of North Granby, Conn., was arraigned on multiple weapons charges stemming from the New Year’s Day arrest and additional charges from a search of his car, a case out of Walpole, and on an outstanding warrant in Connecticut. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on a combined $17,500 by a judge at Wrentham District Court. He was also ordered to stay away from the stadium.

According to Assistant District Attorney Peter Kelly, police were altered to Bromson after bus drivers in the parking lot noticed him walking around the lot, placing small paint brushes, tools, and cans of WD-40 on the windshields of cars in the parking lot. When a driver asked why he was placing the items on cars, Bromson replied, ”I did it because I’m just like Santa.”
When he returned to his car, he was asked again by a driver what he was doing, telling the driver that he was “loading his gun.”

Three witnesses told police that they observe Bromson handle a large cylinder-shaped object they believed may have been a gun. When police talked to Bromson, they noticed his speech was slurred and smelled alcohol on his breath.
A search of his car produced an electric stun gun and several sharp-edged weapons were recovered. During an additional search at the Foxborough Police Department, police found more weapons including darts, pills, and a double-edged knife.
The incident wasn’t Bromson’s only incident during the week. On New Year’s Eve, Bromson was asked to leave America’s Best Value Inn on Route 1. Officers helped Bromson locate to another local hotel, noticing that it appeared that he was living out of his vehicle.
Bromson is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Jan. 27.
