Resident, Dogs Rescued As Crews Battle Fire In Granby
Firefighters faced snow, cold, and a lack of hydrants while knocking down the blaze on Lost Acres Road.
GRANBY, CT — Firefighters rescued a resident and two dogs from a burning home on Lost Acres Road Monday morning after crews were toned out just after 7:30 a.m. for a reported room on fire.
While units were en route, Granby police dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting an active fire. Based on those calls and a heavy column of smoke visible from the area, mutual aid was requested from several surrounding towns before fire crews arrived on scene.
Granby police officers were first to arrive and reported heavy fire conditions. Officers also reported that the homeowner was trapped on a second-floor porch with his two dogs.

The first arriving fire engine immediately went into rescue mode, deploying a ladder to the porch to safely remove the resident and both dogs. Crews then transitioned from rescue operations to fire suppression.
Firefighters faced added challenges from snowy, cold conditions and heavy contents inside the home. Because there are no fire hydrants in that section of town, crews established a water shuttle operation using tanker trucks. Tankers supplied water to engines at the scene and refilled at a dry hydrant on Northwoods Road.
