3 Unlocked Vehicles Stolen In Greenwich: Police

GREENWICH, CT — Three unlocked vehicles were stolen in Greenwich within the past few days, police said. According to Lt. Mark Zuccerella, a Mercedes-Benz parked in the area of Stanwich and Cat Rock roads was stolen on Sunday.

A BMW parked in the same area was also stolen Sunday, Zuccerella said. Both vehicles were later recovered in Waterbury. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

On Tuesday, a Ford parked in the area of Hamilton Avenue was stolen and has not been recovered as of Thursday morning. All three stolen vehicles were unlocked, Zuccerella said.

Earlier this week, police said an Audi parked on Lawrence Street was stolen on Friday, April 17, and later recovered in Monroe.

In an email Monday, Zuccerella said police have located 22 out of the 26 vehicles stolen in town so far this year, not accounting for the three reported stolen this past weekend.

"I cannot stress [enough]...that these cars are not stolen for profit," Zuccerella said in an earlier email. "They are stolen to commit crimes."

The lieutenant also noted the reported thefts from motor vehicles are likely the result of thieves looking for keys in unlocked cars.

"These crimes are 100 percent preventable," Zuccerella said.
