Counterfeit Money Warning Issued By Greenwich Police

In recent months, counterfeit currency has been passed​ in Darien and New Canaan​.

GREENWICH, CT — While the department says that the warning is not due to a specific incident in town, Greenwich police are urging residents and business owners to be on the lookout for scammers trying to pass counterfeit money.

In recent months, counterfeit currency has been passed in Darien and New Canaan, prompting warnings in those communities.

"Can you spot counterfeit US currency?" ask Greenwich police officials in a statement. "Real US bills will have color shifting ink, a watermark of the US President on the bill, UV strip imbedded in the bill, and there will be blue and red fibers in the paper."

According to Greenwich Police Lt. John Slusarz, among the bills that are most often counterfeited are $20s and $100s.
