New Canaan Police Investigate Passing Of Counterfeit Currency
The department is teaming up with Ridgefield police in the investigation.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Fake $100 bills were passed at businesses in New Canaan and Ridgefield on Jan. 5, prompting a joint investigation by the police departments in both communities, according to a post on the New Canaan police Twitter page.
Which New Canaan businesses were victimized were not disclosed, but Ridgefield police said businesses on Bailey Avenue and Main, Governor and Catoonah streets were hit. Local authorities have released the above surveillance photo of a person of interest in the case.
The New Canaan and Ridgefield instances are some of the latest cases of people trying to pass counterfeit currency in the state, following examples in Darien and East Lyme.
