GREENWICH, CT — Credit cards were stolen from a vehicle parked in Greenwich and "used to purchase items" Sunday afternoon, according to police. Lt. John Slusarz said the cards were stolen from a VW Golf parked on Liberty Way around noon.

Slusarz said it appeared the vehicle was unlocked, a common factor in many of the car break-ins and thefts that have occurred in town over the past few months.

On Nov. 24, a Toyota Carolla and a Jeep Cherokee, both parked on Rodwell Avenue, were rummaged through. A week prior, two vehicle break-ins were reported in the Pemberwick area of town.

Slusarz said someone entered a Ford Explorer parked on Green Lane at 3:25 a.m. and rummaged through the vehicle, taking whatever loose change they could find. A 2013 Toyota Sienna parked on Lucy Street was also entered at 3:45 a.m. and rummaged through, though nothing was reported missing, Slusarz said.

According to police, criminals often look in the glove boxes of unlocked vehicles for valuables and find the keys to the vehicle. Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and to make sure the keys are brought inside.
