GREENWICH, CT — Fire officials said Tuesday afternoon crews responded to a fire at Greenwich Hospital. An alert was sent out around 3 p.m. on the Greenwich Fire L1042 Twitter page.

According to Magaly Olivero, the hospital's public relations coordinator, Greenwich Hospital experienced "a smoke incident" in the afternoon which prompted them to contact the fire department.

"A small amount of debris was smoldering on the roof, and the smoke was drawn into the building," Olivero said in an email to Patch. "At no time were patients impacted."

The incident occurred at a busy time for the hospital, which reported Monday there were 65 patients who tested positive for the new coronavirus being treated in several different units of the facility.

As of Monday evening, nearly 400 patients have been discharged from the hospital and continue their recuperation at home. Also as of Monday, 5,149 people have been tested at the hospital, with 1,715 people testing positive, town officials said during a press update.

All of these numbers reflect both patients who live in Greenwich and patients from other areas in Connecticut, as well as Westchester County, N.Y., town officials said.
