Overall, the Greenwich Fire Department said it responded to 30-35 calls for service in a 24-hour period this past weekend.

GREENWICH, CT — While the town of Greenwich sustained minor impacts from the heavy rain on Sunday, the Greenwich Fire Department had its hands full responding to crashes on Interstate-95 and other calls for service.

Firefighters were called to three separate incidents involving tractor-trailers on the stretch of highway in Greenwich.

The first crash occurred around 6 a.m. when a truck jack-knifed into the median, Lubowicki said.

The second crash came around 7:30 a.m. when a truck went off the right side of the roadway and tipped over, and the third crash was reported around 9:30 a.m. In that instance, a truck went through the guardrail and off the roadway, Lubowicki said.

In the first two crashes, the drivers had to be rescued from their vehicles but no injuries were reported, Lubowicki said. In the third crash, the driver was able to get out, but Lubowicki said one person sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital by Greenwich EMS.

The GFD responded to around 30-35 calls for service in a 24-hour period this past weekend, Lubowicki said, noting the department usually averages around 11-12 calls per day.

"It was definitely a busy day by our standards," Lubowicki said.

Other calls for service included gas emergencies and storm-related flooding, the GFD said.

First Selectman Fred Camillo thanked town employees and first responders for their efforts.

"Thanks to the Dept of Public Works and the Dept of Parks and Recreation here in Greenwich for great storm preparation and proper maintenance of the drains in town. The storm drain maintenance certainly helped," Camillo posted on Facebook. "It is easy to forget all those who put on their work boots and keep us all safe during these weather events, including the Fleet Department, GPD, GFD, and emergency service personnel and all others who engage in activities that rescue people, animals, vehicles, and property."
