First Church Preschool Plants Tree in Old Greenwich for Earth Day
The First Church Preschool children participated in an Earth Day Tree Planting Ceremony!
The First Church Preschool in Old Greenwich participated in an Earth Day Tree Planting Ceremony to commemorate the 350th Anniversary of The First Congregational Church of Greenwich. The preschool children helped plant the tree and sang an Earth Day song.
This all began last September when the huge old oak tree that long stood on the church’s front lawn became compromised by severe weather and needed to be taken down. The children watched this elaborate process with fascination. It was at that time that the idea to plant a new tree in its place was born.
Since The First Congregational Church, which sponsors the First Church Preschool, is beginning a year-long celebration of its 350th Anniversary, it also seemed appropriate for commemorating this milestone and was symbolically planned for Earth Day 2015.
