Greenwich Teen Hit-and-Run Suspect Ordered to Stay in Country

GREENWICH, Conn. - Fatal hit-and-run suspect Andrew Schmidt was ordered by a judge to remain in the country and to seek permission from the court before traveling to another state.
Schmidt appeared in court Thursday. He was required to turn in his passport, according to Greenwich Time.

A motion is being considered to try him as a juvenile. He is currently being tried as an adult.
Schmidt and friends spent the day in Armonk, N.Y., before returning to Greenwich on April 17. Witnesses said that Schmidt appeared to be driving fast at the time of the collision on East Putnam Avenue, according to court documents.
Victim Edward Setterberg's body was thrown 130 feet.

Schmidt, 17, was arrested on May 26. Police worked with the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Stamford-Norwalk to obtain a warrant, said Lt. Kraig Gray, police spokesman.
Schimidt is charged with evading responsibility following involvement in an accident that results in a fatality. The charge is a felony with a potential penalty of 10 years in prison.
