Man Accused Of Stealing Over $1M Worth Of Property In Residential Burglaries: Greenwich Police

Police arrested the man by warrant on Jan. 28. Residents are being reminded to ensure their home alarm systems are fully operational.

GREENWICH, CT — A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of residential burglaries in New Canaan and Greenwich dating back to October, according to police.

Grigoli Chaphichadze was arrested on a warrant on Jan. 28 and charged with five counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny; six counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary; four counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree criminal mischief; and two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief.

"Probable cause was established after investigators determined that Chaphichadze was responsible for multiple residential burglaries in both Greenwich and New Canaan, Connecticut," Greenwich police said in an announcement, noting they were able to link Chaphichadze to the crimes through collected evidence. "Detectives identified a pattern of burglaries sharing a consistent and distinctive modus operandi."

"We would like to remind residents to ensure that their home alarm systems are fully operational. In particular, second-floor glass break sensors, as investigators have noted that many recent burglaries involved entry through second-floor windows," police added.

New Canaan police on Jan. 24 announced there were two residential burglaries reported in town between Jan. 19 and Jan. 23, during which forced entry was made through a broken glass door or window, which the department noted "will not trigger an alarm unless glass break detection is active."

It's unclear if Chaphichadze was connected to those incidents.

This is an active investigation and no further information will be released at this time, Greenwich police said.
