GREENWICH, CT — Two vehicles parked in Greenwich were broken into overnight on Sunday, according to police. Lt. John Slusarz said both a Toyota Carolla and a Jeep Cherokee were entered and rummaged through.

The vehicles were parked on Rodwell Avenue. Slusarz said only loose change was taken from either vehicle.

Last week, two vehicle break-ins were also reported in the Pemberwick area of town. Slusarz said someone entered a Ford Explorer parked on Green Lane around 3:25 a.m. and rummaged through the vehicle, taking whatever loose change they could find.

A 2013 Toyota Sienna parked on Lucy Street was also entered around 3:45 a.m. and rummaged through, though nothing was reported missing, Slusarz said.

Both vehicles were unlocked, a common factor in many of the car break-ins and thefts that have occurred in town over the past few months.

"These criminals are basically lazy," Slusarz said to Patch. "They'll come into neighborhoods early in the morning or late at night and check all the vehicles' doors, looking for cars that are unlocked."

Slusarz said criminals often look in the glove boxes of unlocked vehicles for valuables and find the keys to the vehicle. Police remind residents to lock their vehicles and to make sure the keys are brought inside.
