New Canaan Woman Dies in Fall at Stamford Town Center
Stamford Police say the 25-year-old victim climbed over an escalator railing before jumping to her death.
A 25-year-old New Canaan woman has been identified as the victim of an apparent suicide when she jumped from an escalator railing and fell about six stories to her death in the atrium of the Stamford Town Center Monday night, according to Stamford Police.
Capt. Richard Conklin said Lindsey Reiniger, of 845 West Rd., New Canaan, climbed onto the railing of the escalator connecting Levels 7 and 9 of the shopping center about 6:05 p.m. Jan. 5. “She threw her leg over the railing, waited a short time and then made the final move,” Conklin said.
Reiniger was rushed to Stamford Hospital where she was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later, Conklin said.

Conklin said police did not find any suicide notes either on her or in her 2007 Mazda that was found parked on Level 2 of the mall’s parking garage. “It appears she had been battling psychological issues,” Conklin said.
Police have not found any witnesses who saw her in the mall before the incident. Investigators have questioned witnesses to Reiniger’s fall in the atrium.

The Stamford Town Center — with the exception of Macy’s — closed for the night to allow investigators to process the scene, Conklin said.
