Woman Dies in Apparent Suicide Jump at Stamford Town Center Mall

The unidentified 25-year-old woman fell to her death Monday evening; the mall, except for Macy's, was then closed, news reports said.

The Stamford Town Center mall closed Monday evening—with the exception of Macy’s—after a 25-year-old woman fell seven stories to her death.

Stamford Police said they are investigating the woman’s death as a possible suicide, according to news reports.

The mall is at 100 Greyrock Pl. in downtown Stamford.

Shoppers and employees reportedly said a young woman fell several stories in the shopping center’s atrium about 6 p.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital about 90 minutes later, according to The Advocate. Police said the death is believed to be a suicide.

A mall employee who did not want to be identified told The Advocate that witnesses saw the woman crawling over the railing of an uppermost escalator that extends between level seven and level nine and jumping off.

NBC Connecticut cited Stamford Town Center security about the mall’s shutdown.

A request for comment from Stamford Police was not returned Monday night.
