New Use Proposed For Vacant Dry Cleaning Business In Greenwich

A proposal for a new kind of business at a former dry cleaning space has been submitted to the Greenwich Planning & Zoning Department.

GREENWICH, CT — A new use has been proposed for the space formerly occupied by a dry cleaning business in central Greenwich, according to documents recently submitted to the town's Planning & Zoning Department.

The applicant, Alex Gurevich of 169 WPA LLC, who owns the building at 169 W. Putnam Ave., is looking to open a catering business there, documents on file with the town note. The building was previously occupied by New England Cleaners, which closed within the past two years.

In order to accommodate the catering facility, 29 parking spaces at 177 W. Putnam Ave., an office building also owned by Gurevich, are proposed to be utilized, bringing the total number of spaces to 38.

"Since the parking usage at the office space at 177 is not coincidental with the catering space at 169, are hoping to use those space[s] to satisfy our parking requirement," a project narrative states. "Additionally, we would like to take advantage of the regulation that allows for a 25 percent valet/tandem parking. With the 25 percent allowance we get to 51 parking spaces."

The building is 10,530 square feet, according to submitted documents, and an expansion is not being proposed. The building has been repainted from white to a dark gray.

The proposal has yet to be scheduled to go before the Greenwich Planning & Zoning Commission for a pre-application review.

Pre-application reviews allow for non-binding discussions with the commission about the pros and cons of a proposal before a substantial investment is made in developing plans, reports and studies.
