No Specific Threats Against Greenwich Schools: Police
There will be an increased police presence around Greenwich schools, according to the Greenwich Police Department.

GREENWICH, CT — Authorities and towns around the state of Connecticut are reacting to rumors about possible threats against schools on Friday, stemming from posts on the popular social media platform TikTok.
The Connecticut State Police and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection said in a news release Thursday that the agencies have been investigating and monitoring the latest social media trend, and that there are no specific or credible threats to any schools within the state at this time.
"These posts and rumors started on the social media platform TikTok and have been circulating for at least several days across the country, making their way onto additional social media platforms," police said in a news release Thursday. "Many law enforcement agencies around the country have received tips related to these rumors. It is possible that the threats originated from a TikTok challenge to skip school on Friday, Dec. 17."

"We would like to take a moment to remind those families with children on social media that we encourage you to have a discussion about its responsible use, consequences for using it irresponsibly, and the immediate need to report to our staff or Greenwich Police Department if they see something which is out of the ordinary," Jones added.
Capt. Mark Zuccerella and Jones urged residents and students to contact the GPD with any information regarding public safety.
The GPD can be reached anonymously via phone or email anytime at 203-622-3333 or TIPS@greenwichct.org.
The school district is working hand-in-hand with the GPD. Jones said the district will continue to see a larger police presence around school buildings on a regular basis out of an abundance of caution.
"Social media posts such as these recent ones have been increasing and causing increasing alarm within our community and across the nation. We take all of these threats seriously and investigate each one. Those found to be reporting false threats are being held criminally responsible," Zuccerella said Thursday, noting that private schools are also involved in the department's multi-hazard approach.
"We continue to assess all threats to our community and take appropriate actions in response to them. We also communicate with schools in Greenwich in order to ensure we have a coordinated response to maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff."
Zuccerella said anyone who makes a threat, whether they're joking or not, will be held accountable. There have been several hoax incidents around the area in recent weeks, notably in Norwalk and in Greenwich.
