GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is investigating a case of mail theft which occurred late last month and was reported this week, police said.

A package was stolen from the front door of a home on Lower Cross Road around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, according to Capt. Mark Zuccerella of the GPD.

Mail theft is part of a trend that has been seen in Greenwich and neighboring towns recently, Zuccerella said. Thieves are also targeting checks so they can alter them and cash them for higher sums.

"The only people who should be putting stuff in or out of a mailbox is the postal worker or homeowner," Zuccerella said.
