Significant Storm Could Bring Heavy Rain to Connecticut Next Week

Weather.com also lets us know when the next chance for snow is in the upcoming forecast for Connecticut.

Finally, Connecticut might see some drought-busting rain in the upcoming forecast. Most of the state is classified as being in a severe drought but there is some hope that some relief may only be days away.

Of course there are no guarantees with a forecast that is still five days away, but computer models predict that rain could enter Connecticut Tuesday and last for awhile and most importantly bring some significant accumulation to the state.

However, to be clear, the rain chance is currently 50 percent, and it appears that most or all of the precipitation would be rain and not snow. Temps would be in the 50s.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan, who is the first prominent meteorologist in Connecticut to write about the possibility of a prolonged rainstorm next week, shared on social media Friday that “A decent sized storm on our radar for next week. This one COULD provide us a lot of rain. Let's hope. Here's the latest thinking on my blog.”

In Hanrahan’s blog, he writes, “...this storm has the potential to produce heavy rain which is something we desperately need. The 18z GFS has nearly 4" of rain in Hartford!!!! This is likely quite overdone but many of the GFS ensemble members show between 1" and 3" across the state which is a good signal for a storm 5 days out.”

Next chance for snow?

According to Weather.com, the next chance for snow in Connecticut is Tuesday/Wednesday, Dec. 6-7, and Friday, Dec. 9, according to their 15-day forecast. As we know all too well forecasts change daily and I wouldn’t run out and buy the milk, eggs and bread just yet.
