Original post: While we slept overnight, Mother Nature was busy and moving quickly by dumping several inches of snow across the state, and the storm isn’t over as we move into Saturday.

It looks like we’re going to have to deal with an extended period of mixed precipitation, including sleet and freezing rain for most of the day, before the storm wraps up with one more burst of snow late Saturday afternoon.

The whole storm will exit the state by 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The storm has led to hundreds of cancellations Saturday morning. Click here for the latest information on what’s been cancelled.

WFSB 3 Meteorologist Mike Cameron cautioned that this is the type of snow that is a sticky variety and very slippery.

Warnings and advisories remain in effect for the entire state, except for lower New London County.

Warnings are still in effect until 6 p.m. for Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland, Northern Fairfield and New Haven counties, while an advisory remains for southern Fairfield and New Haven counties and northern New London County.

Essentially, most of the state will see snowfall accumulation totals ranging between 4-8 inches of snow, except for New London County, which will see just 2-4 inches.

For those counties and communities receiving a winter storm warning, you’ll receive 4-8 inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice once the storm ends around 6-7 p.m.

The heavy snow has already moved on, but there will be a freezing mix for most of the day and then a return to snow in the late afternoon.

For counties and communities who received an advisory, you will still end up with 4-7 inches of snow, but the National Weather Service is predicting some ice as well.

Again, the heaviest snow has moved on but there will be period of mixed precipitation this morning and a return to snow in the afternoon. It’s also possible some plain rain may mix in as well.
