Groton Father of 5 Killed Over Drug Money, Affidavit Says

The suspects had previously plead not guilty to felony murder in regards to the incident.

NEW LONDON, CT - An affidavit said two men charged with killing a father of five more than a decade ago did so over drug money, according to media reports

Christopher Vincenti and Timothy Johnson, both 32, have been charged in the January 2006 murder of Anthony Hamlin, according to the Norwich Bulletin. Groton resident Hamlin’s body was found in a Ledyard field, dead from blunt force trauma to the head.

The suspects had previously plead not guilty to felony murder in regards to the incident, Fox 61 reported. An unsealed arrest warrant said the men were charged with beating Hamlin with a piece of wood and taking $100 from his wallet.

The warrant also said the suspects allegedly stripped the victim of his clothes and later burned them, according to the Norwich Bulletin. Hamlin was a member of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation.

The affidavit said Hamlin was stripped naked to avoid leaving behind any blood or evidence of fingerprints, according to The Day. Evidence against them had not been brought to police attention until somebody close to Johnson provided detectives with information in September of this year.

A witness said in court the two suspects attended East Lyme High School together and were constantly abusing substances on a daily basis, The Day reported. The two had even beaten a kid so badly in high school that he needed to be hospitalized, according to the unidentified witness.

Patch previously covered the situation in November when Vincenti waived his right to a probable cause hearing.
