Authorities stress it's important to keep your dog on a leash while hiking.
"A very important reminder of why you must keep your dog on a leash while hiking. This little baby was found in the Timberlands trails. She could not get up properly with an injured front leg and appeared to have possible internal injuries," Guilford Police Animal Shelter said.

"Removing a fawn from the wild is the last thing we want to do, but after consulting with a rehabilitator, it was decided she required medical attention. She was taken to a local veterinary hospital that treats wildlife. It was concluded that her injuries could have been caused by a dog. Following Guilford's leash laws could have prevented this little one's pain and fear. We will post updates on her condition when we know how she is doing."
Guilford Police Animal Shelter said on social media that if you find a fawn in distress, as yesterday's was, please call them and they will assist it as best we can.
