Guilford Election Results: GOP Defeated In Contentious BOE Race

As of Wednesday morning, the Secretary of State said official results statewide have not yet been displayed due to a technical issue.

GUILFORD, CT — The polls closed in Guilford and the Board of Education fusion slate of Independent and Democratic candidates, Protect Guilford Schools, has defeated the Republican slate.

"Tuesday night in Guilford hope beat fear, equity beat division, the future beat the past, and truth beat lies," Protect Guilford Schools campaign manager Bill Bloss told Patch.

The Parents for Guilford Children platform, Republicans who asserted that critical race theory was being taught in Guilford classrooms, it is not, and whose campaign chair garnered national attention for a racist comment on a UConn Zoom meeting, posted on their Facebook page:

"Our five republican candidates lost the BOE election. But the biggest losers are the children in Guilford."

In the unofficial tally from the registrar's office, here's the count:

Democrats Arnold Skretta, 6,566 and Moira Rader, 6,602 and Independents Kristy Faulkner,6,274 Jennifer Baldwin, 6,285 and Noel G. Petra, 5,395.

Republicans Aly Passarelli, 3,067, Danielle Scarpellino, 3,045 Nick Cusano, 3,072, Bill Maisano, 3,093, and Tim Chamberlin, 3,043.

UPDATE:

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, Secretary of State Denise Merrill announced that it's been as yet unable to display election results.

“The election night reporting system has a technical issue affecting the display of results, but all of the results are tallied and entered into the election night reporting system locally. All of the results that have been entered thus far are safely and securely stored on the system, but are not currently being displayed. The third-party vendor that manages the reporting system is working right now to display the results as soon as possible. If anyone is interested in getting specific results while we work to fix the issue, please email elections@ct.gov and we will get you what you are looking for as soon as we can.”

So still to come are the official results for key races including Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance. Check back as those results will be posted.

The choices for Board of Finance are Democrats Veronica Wallace and Amy Earls, Republicans Jeffrey T. Beatty and Jonathan Trotta, and Petitioning Candidates Nicholas Joseph Meyer and Carolyne Soper. Vote for up to three.
