2nd Victim Dies From Crash Into Bus Stop: Hamden Police

Police said a second victim has died after a driver crashed into a bus stop enclosure in Hamden last month.

HAMDEN, CT — A second victim has died as a result of the Feb. 12 accident in which a driver crashed into a bus stop enclosure in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Woodin Street in Hamden, according to police.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s office notified police that Pedro “Pete” Esquilin, 59, of Hamden, has died of his injuries, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. Esquilin had been hospitalized since the date of the crash. Maurice Messier, 57, of Hamden, was also killed in the crash.

The driver, 31-year-old Pinky McBurrows of Ansonia, was arrested last month and may face additional charges, Smith said on Friday.

The crash happened in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Woodin Street around 5 a.m. on Feb. 12. McBurrows was driving north on Dixwell Avenue when she crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic and hit the bus stop enclosure, which was occupied by the two men, Smith said.

Hamden Fire Rescue responded and provided medical assistance. The victims were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

McBurrows ran from her vehicle immediately after the crash and was quickly apprehended by Officer Elvin Rivera, Smith said.
