Convicted Felon Arrested On Gun Charges After Foot Pursuit: Hamden Police
Two men were charged after officers investigated a suspicious vehicle complaint late Saturday night, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A convicted felon was arrested on gun charges after police say he was found to be in the possession of a loaded 9mm handgun while officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle complaint on Saturday night. Another man was arrested on a drug charge after being found with marijuana, according to police.
At about 10:30 p.m. on June 17, Hamden Police responded to Whiting Street regarding a suspicious vehicle complaint, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
Smith said arriving officers determined that the two occupants of the vehicle, Jeremiah Herring and Jabron Matheney, were trespassing. In addition, officers observed them smoking marijuana, according to Smith.

Smith said a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded 9mm handgun. Matheney was promptly arrested while Herring was arrested moments later after a foot pursuit, according to Smith.
Herring, 20, of North Street in Hamden, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a firearm without a permit and interfering with a police officer. Herring, who was detained on a $100,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 30.

Matheney, 23, of Third Street in Hamden, was charged with possession of marijuana. Methaney, who was released on a written promise to appear, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 30.
Officer Christopher Sheppard conducted the investigation.
