Girl, 12, Reunited With Family After Taking Mom’s Car And Going Missing: Hamden Police (UPDATED)
A Silver Alert had been issued for the girl, who left home in her mother's car with her 9-year-old sister (who has since returned): Police.

HAMDEN, CT — In a Friday afternoon update, Hamden Police say the missing juvenile has been located safely and reunited with her family. The Silver Alert has been canceled.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden Police are searching for a 12-year-old girl who took her mother’s car and left home Thursday night with her 9-year-old sister, who has since returned. At about 7 p.m. on July 27, Hamden Police responded to a Windsor Road address on the report of a missing person, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that the sisters left their residence in their mother’s motor vehicle, a black 2014 Nissan Altima with Connecticut registration AA56013. The mother told police that her daughter, 12, has driven her vehicle in the past, without her permission. Smith said officers conducted an extensive search for the missing children but didn’t locate them. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
Then, at about 11:50 p.m., police learned that the 9-year-old girl had returned home. Smith said the girl had been “dropped off” in close proximity of her residence. According to the girl, her older sister was still in possession of the Nissan Altima. She further related that she was accompanied by “3 black males,” Smith said.
