Hamden Cop Accused Of Assaulting Suspect In North Haven: Reports
The police sergeant is accused of assaulting a suspect, who allegedly threatened his family, while North Haven Police were investigating.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A Hamden Police sergeant is accused of assaulting a burglary and harassment suspect in North Haven late last month. Sgt. Michael Cirillo of the Hamden Police Department was arrested while in uniform after the incident unfolded in the basement of a North Haven home on Dec. 31, according to multiple reports.
WTNH News 8 reports Cirillo, a 16-year veteran, showed up while North Haven Police were investigating at a home on Philip Place and began immediately yelling at the suspect, Vincent Terrone, and pushed him to the ground and put him in a headlock.
Terrone is known to Cirillo and is accused of threatening Cirillo’s family members, which apparently led to the confrontation, according to WTNH News 8.

NBC Connecticut reports Cirillo cooperated after the incident and turned over his weapon to North Haven Police. He was charged with third-degree assault.
Terrone, who complained of lower back pain and was taken to the hospital for evaluation after the incident, later requested that the charges against Cirillo be withdrawn, according to NBC Connecticut.

Cirillo was placed on modified duty and relieved of his police powers pending the completion of an internal investigation by the Hamden Police Department, according to the New Haven Register.
