Hamden Cop Demoted After Assault Arrest: Report
Two Hamden Police officers were recently disciplined after settlements were reached with the police chief and union.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden Police officer who was arrested last year in North Haven for assaulting a man he said had threatened his family was demoted as part of a settlement reached with Police Chief Thomas Wydra and approved by the Police Commission and the union, according to the New Haven Register.
The Register reports Officer Michael Cirillo, who left his post and confronted the man while in uniform at a North Haven home, was demoted from sergeant and was also removed from the list of those eligible for promotion to lieutenant. He also agreed to complete an anger management program.
Wydra and the union also agreed to a 30-day suspension for Officer Timothy McKeon after an internal investigation found that he "made a minimum of five purchases of illegal steroids" between 2009 and 2017, the Register reports.
