Hamden Man Stole $60K In Equipment From Oakdale Theatre: Wallingford Police

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Hamden man is accused of stealing about $60,000 worth of equipment from the Oakdale Theatre, according to Wallingford Police. The suspect was arrested following an extensive investigation that began in March when Oakdale officials discovered that audio equipment had been stolen from the venue, located at 95 South Turnpike Road in Wallingford.

Oakdale officials contacted Wallingford Police on March 27 to report that four audio loud speaker processors had been stolen. The initial investigation revealed that the equipment was valued at about $12,000, according to police. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Wallingford Police Detectives conducted an investigation into the stolen items and found that numerous pieces of high-end audio equipment that was specific for concert venues was also missing, according to Sgt. James Cifarelli.

Cifarelli said that after an extensive investigation, it was determined that a contracted union employee who works events at the Oakdale Theatre was taking pieces of equipment over several months and selling them.

The investigation revealed that Anthony Amato, 45, had stolen about $60,000 worth of equipment, according to Cifarelli.

Amato, of Mansur Road in Hamden, was arrested July 10 on a warrant and charged with first-degree larceny by ongoing scheme.

Amato was processed and released on a $15,000 court-set bond and is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on July 24.
