Hamden Police to Host Tip-A-Cop Event Benefiting Special Olympics

Fundraiser at Mickey's, May 24th

Officers with the Hamden Police Department will host a Tip-A-Cop event to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut at Mickey’s Restaurant & Bar on Thursday May 24th, from 5 to 9 p.m. Mickey’s Restaurant & Bar is located at 2323 Whitney Avenue in Hamden.

During the event, officers will volunteer their time to assist restaurant staff in taking orders and serving dinner to customers. All tips the officer receive for their efforts will go to Special Olympics Connecticut to support its year-round sports, health and fitness programs for athletes of all abilities.

About the Special Olympics Connecticut Law Enforcement Torch Run®

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Connecticut is one of the movement's largest fundraisers. This year-round program involves law enforcement officers from across the state who volunteer their time to raise awareness and funds through events they host including Tip-a-Cops, Cop-on-Tops, and Jail N’ Bail fundraisers.

In addition, each year in June, over 1,500 officers and athletes carry the Special Olympics torch, with its "Flame of Hope”, through hundreds of cities and towns across the state, covering over 530 miles in three days. Officers run the “Final Leg” and light the ceremonial cauldron during Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games.
