Hamden Teen, 18, Charged In Carjackings, Theft: Police

Police say carjacking suspects stole vehicles in two towns before leading officers on a wild chase through Fairfield & crashing into a wall.

HAMDEN, CT — Carjacking suspects stole vehicles in New Haven and Norwalk before leading police on a wild chase through Fairfield and crashing into a stone wall, according to police.

Charged in the carjackings are 19-year-old Noel Adon of New Haven, 18-year-old Sherod Manick of Hamden and a juvenile, Norwalk police said.

The incident began just before midnight Thursday, when a silver BMW was carjacked at gunpoint in New Haven, according to police. Within 30 minutes, the suspects are believed to have driven to Norwalk and tried unsuccessfully to carjack a Maserati on Bouton Street before carjacking a blue Nissan Altima on Kettle Road, displaying weapons both times, police said. The suspects also stole personal items from the victim on Kettle Road, Norwalk police said.

Soon after, Westport police saw a silver BMW traveling north on Interstate 95, according to Norwalk police. The BMW took Exit 23 in Fairfield, immediately returned to the interstate via the northbound entrance, took Exit 24, returned to I-95 heading southbound, left the interstate again at Exit 23 and continued on Kings Highway toward the center of town, Fairfield police said. Officers chased the BMW through Fairfield until it turned north onto North Pine Creek Road, according to Fairfield police. The vehicle hit a stone wall while attempting to turn from Unquowa Road to Sturges Road, Fairfield police said.

The suspects were taken into custody and turned over to Norwalk police for arrest and processing, according to Fairfield police, who also said a loaded handgun was found on the floor of the BMW. In addition, the juvenile was in possession of counterfeit money and an item belonging to one of the victims, Norwalk police said.

"We would like to thank Westport PD, Norwalk PD, and New Haven PD for their unwavering assistance in the apprehension of three very dangerous felony suspects in our town," Fairfield Police Department Capt. Robert Kalamaras said in a news release. "Had it not been for the coordination and teamwork of these agencies, three armed carjacking suspects would still be at large."

Hadon is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a pistol, larceny and interfering with an officer, according to Norwalk police, while Manick is charged with conspiracy to carry a pistol without a permit, conspiracy to commit larceny and interfering with an officer. Both their bonds are set at $250,000.

The juvenile is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, conspiracy to commit larceny, forgery and interfering with an officer, Norwalk police said.

The blue Altima continued north on I-95 and was not found, Fairfield police said. The Norwalk Police Detective Bureau has taken over the investigation and asks that anyone with information about the incident call 203-854-3182 or 203-854-3038.
