Majority Want Trump To Stop Tweeting: Quinnipiac Poll

Trump got a slight bump in the polls, but those polled including the majority of Republicans want him to quit tweeting.

HAMDEN, CT —President Donald Trump got a slight bump in his approval rating in the latest Quinnipiac Polls, but most polled including Republicans said they want him to stop tweeting from his personal account. His latest poll number is 40 percent approval with 55 percent disapproval.

It is his best Quinnipiac Poll score since April 19.

Voters overall said 61 to 32 percent that he should stop tweeting. Among Republicans the numbers were 49 to 43 percent to stop. The poll was released on the same day Trump tweeted insults about the hosts of "Morning Joe."

Republicans including Speaker Paul Ryan, Rep. Lynn Jenkins and Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized Trump's tweets.

"A bump, not a jump, in approval for President Donald Trump, who is still mired in awful numbers on leadership, honesty and empathy," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

American voters say 63 - 34 percent that President Trump is not level-headed, an improvement from June 7 when voters said 68 - 29 percent that he is not level-headed, his worst grade on that quality. Voter opinions of most other Trump qualities are negative:

  • 57 - 38 percent that he is not honest;
  • 54 - 44 percent that he does not have good leadership skills;
  • 55 - 44 percent that he does not care about average Americans;
  • 63 - 34 percent that he is a strong person;
  • 58 - 39 percent that he is intelligent;
  • 59 - 38 percent that he does not share their values.
