Man, 19, Charged In Fatal Shooting: Hamden Police

The passenger of a vehicle has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of the driver, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A 19-year-old New Haven resident has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Hamden in January, according to police.

Charles Hill was arrested Wednesday on a warrant stemming from a homicide that happened on Fairview Avenue on Jan. 15, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. Herman Bellamy, 22, of Hamden, was killed in the shooting.

Dolan said the investigation found that Hill was a passenger inside Bellamy’s vehicle.

“Hill was firing a handgun from inside Bellamy’s vehicle at another vehicle,” Dolan wrote in a news release. “Bellamy, who was driving the vehicle, was struck and killed during the exchange of gunfire.

“The Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Unit, along with the Connecticut State Police, conducted an extensive investigation into the homicide. Detective Jomo Crawford and Detective Donald Remillard were the lead detectives assigned to the case.”

Hill was charged with first-degree manslaughter with a firearm. He is currently in custody at the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections. Hill was previously charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and illegal discharge of a firearm in connection with the shooting.
