Man Assaulted Pregnant Girlfriend: Hamden Police

The man is accused of striking the victim several times and choking her "on and off" for about an hour during the altercation, police say.

HAMDEN, CT — A 34-year-old man is accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend when a verbal dispute turned physical Thursday morning in Hamden. Police say the man struck the victim several times and choked her “on and off” for about an hour during the altercation. Police responded to a Smith Drive residence on a 911 call at about 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 28, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that a 31-year-old female, who is a “live-in caregiver” at the Smith Drive address, was involved in a verbal dispute with her boyfriend, Victor Pergee. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation.

Pergee is accused of striking the victim multiple times and knocking her to the ground. Pergee then “ripped her hair out,” according to Smith.

Smith said officers also learned that Pergee “assaulted her and choked her on and off for approximately an hour.”

The victim suffered injuries to her stomach and arms and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment, according to Smith. Officers promptly took Pergee into custody.

Pergee was charged with first-degree assault on a pregnant woman, second-degree strangulation, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer. Pergee, who was detained on a $100,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden today.
