Man Attacked Landlord In Driveway: Hamden Police

The suspect is accused of punching the landlord in the face and stomping on him after he returned home, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man is accused of assaulting his landlord in the driveway after the victim had returned home with his wife, according to police. At about 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, Hamden Police responded to a Bagley Avenue address on the report of an assault, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that the 34-year-old victim was returning home with his wife and he was approached by Otis Bowens, his tenant, upon entering the driveway. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Bowen immediately attacked the man, striking him several times in the face with his fists, according to Smith. When the victim fell to the ground, Bowens allegedly “stomped” on him, Smith said.

The victim sustained an injured eye, bloody nose and lacerated lip. In addition, Smith said the assault placed the victim in “an altered mental state.” He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Bowens fled from the scene in a motor vehicle but turned himself in to police custody shortly thereafter, according to Smith.

Bowens, 39, of Bagley Avenue in Hamden, was arrested on charges of second-degree assault and breach of peace. Bowens, who was detained on a $5,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 2.
