Man Burglarized 2 Homes, Assaulted Resident: Hamden Police
The man is accused of burglarizing 2 homes within a half hour of each other and grabbing a resident's hand while trying to force his way in.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man faces several charges after police say he burglarized two homes within a half hour of each other late Friday night. At about 10 p.m. on Jan. 12, Hamden Police responded to a Walden Street address on the report of a burglary-in-progress, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that a resident of the three-story dwelling heard noises in the common hallway. She observed an individual, who was later identified as Ernest Snow, taking clothes that she had left outside of her front door.
Then, at about 10:30p.m., police responded to a Whitney Avenue address on the report of a burglary-in-progress. Smith said police learned that that Snow had forced entry into the residence through a rear door. Once inside, he went to the third floor and attempted to force entry into the apartment by pushing the door open, according to Smith.

Smith said the resident, who was on the phone, “used her arms and legs to push back against Snow’s attempt to force his way through the door.”
Snow was able to force the door open several inches and then grabbed the 52-year-old resident’s hand, according to Smith. The woman suffered a wrist and back injury. She also said that Snow probably left when he heard her on the phone with police.

Moments later, Sgt. Michael Doherty located Snow in the vicinity of Dixwell Avenue and Connolly Parkway. A subsequent search of Snow led to the discovery of burglar tools and he was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters, according to Smith.
Snow, 56, of East Street in New Haven, was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of possession of burglar tools and one count each of third-degree assault and sixth-degree larceny. Snow is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 25.
