Man Charged with Breaking into Car: Hamden Police

Police responded to the report of a "suspicious" person early Friday morning: BREAKING

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man faces charges after police say he broke into a car early Friday morning.

Hamden Police responded to Helen Street on the report of a “suspicious” person at about 5:30 a.m. on July 29, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said responding officers learned that an individual forcibly entered a parked motor vehicle.

Moments later, Officer Timothy McKeon located the individual, Jeffrey Payne Jr., in the vicinity of Fourth Street, according to Smith.

Payne Jr. was subsequently arrested and transported to Hamden Police Headquarters.

Payne Jr., 26, of North Street in Hamden, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Payne Jr., who was detained on a $500 bond, was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 29.

Officer Timothy Brown conducted the investigation.
