Man Drops ‘Fully Loaded’ Gun While Running From Police: Hamden PD

A man dropped a "fully loaded" 9 mm gun while running away from police during a drug bust Monday night in Hamden, according to officials.

HAMDEN, CT — A man dropped a “fully loaded” 9 mm gun while running away from police during a drug bust Monday night in Hamden, according to officials.

At about 9 p.m. on Nov. 9, members of the Hamden and New Haven police departments conducted an investigation in the 1500 block of Dixwell Avenue, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said the investigation led to the arrest of Shikeem Graham, who was found to be in the possession of 50 wax folds of heroin and 22 Oxycodone pills. As officers approached Graham, the person he was talking to ran away and was apprehended shortly thereafter, according to Smith.

The man, identified as Darese Blue, dropped a fully loaded 9 mm handgun during the foot chase, according to Smith.

Smith said the gun had a “large capacity magazine” that contained 24 rounds. Blue was also found to be in the possession of 5.2 grams of heroin and crack cocaine, according to Smith. Blue is also accused of not allowing officers to fingerprint him while at police headquarters.

Graham, 25, of Clintonville Road in North Haven, was arrested on charges of possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell. Graham, who was released after posting a $2,500 bond, is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 13.

Blue, 24, of Winthrop Street in New Britain, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell and interfering with a police officer. Blue, who was being held in lieu of a $200,000 bond, is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 24.
