
HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man is accused of passing a nearly $2,000 counterfeit check at a bank in Hamden, according to police. Webster Bank, located at 2855 Dixwell Avenue in Hamden, contacted police with a fraud complaint on Dec. 18, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that Jose Cordero entered Webster Bank on Oct. 9, 2017 and passed a counterfeit check in the amount of $1,987. Detective John Marks conducted an investigation that led to an arrest warrant for Cordero, which was approved by the court.
On Jan. 14, Cordero was located by the New Haven Police Department and turned over to Hamden Police.

Cordero, 42, of Salem Street in New Haven, was charged with third-degree forgery and fourth-degree larceny. He was detained on a court-ordered $10,000 bond. Cordero is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 29.
