Man Pointed Fake Gun At Woman During Road-Rage Incident: Police

Police say the man had two children, ages 2 and 7, in the car at the time of the incident in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — A Waterbury man is accused of pointing a fake gun at another driver during a road-rage incident while he had two children, ages 2 and 7, in the vehicle, according to police. At about 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 18, Hamden Police responded to the area of State Street and Farm Road on the report of threatening, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

A woman told police that she was traveling northbound on State Street and attempted to pass a vehicle that was making a right turn. The vehicle subsequently “sped off” and then completed a U-turn, according to Smith.

The victim told police the operator of the vehicle, who was later identified as Jerome Rumley, then approached her vehicle and pointed a “silver gun” at her, according to Smith. Rumley then made another U-turn and fled northbound on State Street.

Moments later, Officer Christina Giori located Rumley, who was leaving a North Haven Package Store. During a search of his vehicle, police found a “.177 caliber steel ball airsoft revolver,” according to Smith. There were three passengers inside of Rumley’s vehicle, including a 2-year-old and a 7-year-old, Smith said. Rumley was arrested and taken to Hamden Police Headquarters.

Rumley, 25, of East Main Street in Waterbury, was charged with illegal use of a facsimile firearm, second-degree breach of peace and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. Rumley, who was held on a $500 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 5.
