Man Pushed Woman, 68, To Ground During Robbery: Hamden Police

The suspect is accused of pushing a 68-year-old woman to the ground and stealing her cellphone, $400 and credit cards in a parking lot.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man is accused of pushing a 68-year-old woman to the ground and robbing her in a parking lot last month in Hamden, according to police. At about 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 22, Hamden Police responded to the parking lot of 2335 Dixwell Avenue on the report of a street robbery, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that a 68-year-old woman was approached by a man, who was later identified as Calvin Conley, while she was walking to her motor vehicle. Conley “pushed her to the ground and pulled her purse from her grasp,” according to Smith.

The victim suffered several abrasions, along with a wrist and knee injury, during the robbery, according to Smith. The woman’s cellphone was stolen, along with $400 and credit cards.

Detective William Onofrio conducted an investigation that led to an arrest warrant for Conley. Hamden Police, with the assistance of New Haven Police, arrested Conley at a store in New Haven on Feb. 12. He was subsequently transported to Hamden Police Headquarters.

Conley, 56, of Fairmount Avenue in New Haven, was charged with third-degree robbery, third-degree assault on an elderly victim and second-degree larceny. Conley, who was detained on a court-ordered $25,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Feb. 26.
