Men Caught Stealing Cooking Oil From Business: Hamden Police

Police said the men were found siphoning cooking oil from grease dumpsters around 4 a.m. and had two 250-gallon containers in their van.

HAMDEN, CT — Two New York residents were arrested after they were caught stealing cooking oil from a Hamden business early Thursday morning, according to police.

Police responded to the rear of 3000 Whitney Ave. around 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 17 on the report of a theft, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said police found that Ronald Gutierrez and Isaac Thenlora were siphoning cooking oil from the grease dumpsters that were on the property. Police found two 250-gallon containers inside their van along with a gas pump with siphoning hoses, according to Smith.

Gutierrez, 26, and Thenlora, 23, of Yonkers, New York, were both charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. They were each held in lieu of a $1,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1.

Gutierrez was also arrested on a warrant out of Enfield. He was charged with second-degree failure to appear.
