Police Increasing Security At Hamden Plaza During Holiday Season

Police are increasing patrols and security measures in the Hamden Plaza to keep residents safe during the holiday season, officials said.

HAMDEN, CT — Police are increasing security measures in the Hamden Plaza to keep residents safe during the holiday season, officials announced Wednesday.

Police said the department worked with management officials from the Hamden Plaza to enhance various security measures, including the installation of upgraded lighting in key areas and security cameras are being installed.

Extra security patrols will also be taking place, officials said.

“Throughout the holidays, the Hamden Police Department will be conducting high visibility holiday patrols in the Hamden Plaza and other shopping areas around town,” officials wrote in a news release. “These pro-active measures have been a direct result of requests by Hamden residents and Hamden Block Watch members.”

The Hamden Police Department reminds shoppers of the following safety tips during the busy holiday season:

  • When shopping, park your vehicle in a highly illuminated area.
  • When returning to your vehicle, look inside before entering.
  • When walking to your vehicle, have your keys accessible. You want to unlock the door to your vehicle as quickly as possible.
  • Place purchased items in the locked trunk of your vehicle. These items should not be in plain view.
  • Do not leave your purse/wallet, money, cell phone or other electronic equipment inside of the vehicle.
  • If you are the victim of a robbery, don’t resist. Contact the police (911) immediately.
  • Carry only the credit cards you need.
  • Avoid carrying a large amount of money.
