Suspected Car Burglar Apprehended by Hamden K-9 Unit

Police arrested the man after he was tracked down by K-9 Blaze and emerged from the woods. Police are looking for another suspect: BREAKING

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden K-9 unit apprehended a man accused of breaking into vehicles overnight in Hamden early Monday morning.

Hamden Police responded to Grandview Avenue at about 3 a.m. on the report of two males “breaking into vehicles," according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said officers ascertained that two motor vehicles were forcibly entered and a perimeter was subsequently established.

Officer William May and his K-9 partner Blaze conducted a track near a wooded area on Grandview Avenue.

Moments later, Terrance Colvin emerged from the woods and was promptly arrested and transported to Hamden Police Headquarters, according to Smith.

Colvin, 25, of Lodge Street in New Haven, was arrested on two counts third-degree burglary, two counts of criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny and one count of interfering with a police officer.

Colvin, who was detained on a $5,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 15.

Smith said the investigation is continuing.
