Teen, 16, Robbed Man During Drug Deal: Hamden Police

Police say the victim was "pistol-whipped" and had his wallet stolen before jumping out of a moving car during a drug deal.

HAMDEN, CT — A 16-year-old New Haven resident has been arrested in connection to a recent robbery in which the victim was “pistol-whipped” during a drug deal and jumped out of a moving car in an attempt to escape, according to police. Hamden Police responded to the Warner Street area at about 5 p.m. on Jan. 12 on the report of a robbery, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that the victim was first seen making a purchase with a “$100 bill” at a local service station. He was subsequently approached by an individual, who asked him if he wanted to purchase marijuana. The victim agreed and entered a vehicle that contained four passengers, according to Smith.

The victim was driven to Warner Street, at which time he was "pistol whipped" and his wallet was stolen, according to Smith. The victim told police that in an attempt to escape he "jumped out of the moving car." He sustained a broken ankle and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment, according to Smith.

Detective Joseph Liguori conducted an investigation that led to an arrest warrant for a 16-year-old New Haven resident.

The juvenile, whose name wasn’t released due to his age, was arrested Feb. 8 at Juvenile Court in New Haven. He was charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, second-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny.
