Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Bust In Hamden: Police

Police say a man was found with crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana and Oxycodone pills after driving through a stop sign.

HAMDEN, CT — A traffic stop led to a recent drug bust in Hamden, according to police. On June 15, Officer Matthew Barbuto of the Hamden Police Department observed a motor vehicle proceed through a stop sign at the intersection of Shepard Street and Goodrich Street, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted and investigation led to the search of the vehicle, according to Smith. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Smith said officers discovered 45 bags of crack cocaine, 29 wax folds of heroin, a bag of marijuana and 5 Oxycodone pills inside of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, Charles Tyson, was arrested and transported to Hamden Police Headquarters.

Tyson, 38, of Winchester Avenue in New Haven, was charged with three counts of possession of narcotics, three counts of possession of narcotics with the intent to sell and possession of marijuana. Tyson was released after posting a $25,000 bond.
