Hartford Kids To Celebrate School's Return

The city's school system is hosting its annual 'Back to School Celebration' on Aug. 16 at Dunkin Donuts Park.

HARTFORD, CT — The home of the Yard Goats Tuesday will be the home for the city's popular, end-of-summer celebration marking the start of a new school year later this month.

Hartford Public Schools' Office of Family Community Partnerships is hosting a special event at Dunkin Donuts Park, 1214 Main St., on Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The school system's "Back to School Celebration" will transform the top AA baseball stadium in the country into a celebratory bastion of eager schoolchildren.

And there's lots of freebies available at this free event.

In addition to seeing the stadium, the celebration will allow for students to pick up free backpacks and school supplies for the new school year, which begins in Hartford on Monday, Aug. 29.

The backpacks and supplies, however, are only available while supplies last.

In addition, free Covid-19 vaccinations and boosters will be available for eligible students as well as their families, according to an announcement of the event.

And if that wasn't enough, free ice cream and more will be available at the event, which will take place rain or shine, .

While the celebration is free, organizers are asking folks to register for the event and that can be done online.
